Top 5 Sound Machines for Your Therapy Office

Sound machines are wonderful little devices that aid in relaxation! They usually emit fan sounds, white (or other colors) of noise, and nature sounds.

People use them in nurseries to soothe babies, in their bedrooms to promote sound sleep, and in offices to help with focus and drown out distracting noises.

Why have a sound machine in your therapy office?

Because it’s a great way to add to the overall experience of therapy for your clients and create a safe, healing environment. It’s a small touch that can go a long way!

It can also add to the privacy of your office by masking voices and making it more difficult for anyone outside of your office to hear what’s happening inside.

There are literally hundreds of these machines on the market these days which makes it very overwhelming to shop for one.

No worries though – this guide does the work for you!

Here are 5 different sound machine options…

All well-rated and appropriate for therapy offices.

This guide includes a low-cost option, two mid-range priced options, one slightly higher-cost machine with lots of useful features, and finally a “Cadillac” option at the highest end of the cost spectrum.

And because it can be powered with batteries or plugged into an outlet, it may be placed virtually any where in your office.

Positive reviewers of the Big Red Rooster love it for it’s easy-to-use and compact design. It’s boasted as a simple machine that will get the job done if you’re looking for a basic sound machine with nothing fancy.

Highly Rated, Mid-Range Machines

LectroFan High Fidelity White Noise Machine

Willing to pay a bit more for your sound machine?

If so, the LectroFan High Fidelity White Noise Machine may be a great choice for you and your clients!

This machine comes in right around $50 and offers not just white noise but “pink noise” and “brown noise” as well. (Betcha didn’t know those existed, right?!)

Overall, you’ll get 20 unique sounds in this machine (including fan sounds and ambient noise), precision-volume control, an upward facing speaker for better sound quality, a timer, and even the option of using your USB as the power source.

Be aware that this machine is not the most visually attractive machine out there.  And it does not offer nature sounds.

However, this may be preferred for clients who enjoy light background noise but feel distracted by sounds like chirping birds or a waterfall. (I once had a client say that waterfalls or rain sounds make her have to pee – not ideal during a session!)

AVANTEK White Noise Sound Machine

Another highly rated, mid-range priced machine is the White Noise Sound Machine from AVANTEK.

At under $40 and near 4.5 out of 5 stars, it’s a great machine with a decent amount of options to add to a soothing atmosphere for your therapy sessions.

A unique feature of this machine is its memory function. Each time you turn it on, it recalls your previous settings for volume, sound, and even the timer. Very cool!

It offers 20 different sounds including 6 white noise and 6 fan sounds, plus 8 nature sounds. The sound of a campfire during a session – exciting, odd, or some of both?

You can power this machine with an outlet or USB cable (included!) and the timer on it runs for up to 7 hours – perfect for those clients who just won’t quit talking:)

Positive reviewers love it for it’s compact size and variety of available sounds!

Some Bells & Whistles!

SNOOZ White Noise Sound Machine

Who doesn’t like to splurge from time to time for more bells and whistles!?

When it comes to sound machines for your therapy office, this machine is a great option!

The White Noise Sound Machine by SNOOZ is beautiful sleek looking machine with a real fan on the inside for sound creation. (Mind blown! Pun intended.)

You can get it in 2 colors: charcoal or cloud (which looks like a lovely silver tone).

Best of all, there’s a phone app available for both iOS and Android that you can use to remotely control your machine.

Who needs an old-fashioned timer when you can program the machine to turn on and off at precisely the times you want. #bigballin

There are no nature sounds on this machine. Rather, 10 settings for turning the fan from a whisper to a roaring fan sound – think “air plane cabin.” Perhaps your clients want a to imagine they’re flying away for vacation.

At right around $80, positive reviewers say it’s absolutely worth the money!

A Fancy, High-End Machine

SE Special Edition High Fidelity Sound Machine

By now, if none of the above sound machines suite your taste you may need a fancy “Cadillac” machine instead.

Of course, you’ll pay for it but it may very well be worth it depending on your needs.

The SE (Special Edition) High Fidelity Sleep Sound Machine from Adaptive Sound Technologies will set you back about $110 but boasts an incredible 64 different sound profiles! This includes 16 unique sounds that each have 4 variations.

There are 2 fan sounds, white, brown, and pink noises, plus a variety of other sounds like rainfall, meadow, meditative, and even city (for us urban dwellers).

This Special Edition model comes in black or silver, has dual-USB ports, and even comes with an audio cable if you’d prefer to connect it to a music player or your phone.

Moreover, the speaker is a 3″ high-fidelity speaker that faces upward, and there are 4 different timer functions that will gradually reduce the sound you’re playing before shutting it off.

Also, the adaptive sound feature automatically adjusts to cover noises from the environment. A very nice touch!

Your clients will either love it, or question your sanity for spending so much on a sound machine.

Either way, this is sure to be a one-of-a-kind addition to your therapy office!
