FP fans, meet Dr. Karla Heredia, a therapist in City of Industry, CA!
1) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR THERAPY OFFICE?
As you walk into the waiting area you will see a green plant, flowers and natural paintings. These paintings soften each room since they represent natural elements such as water, earth and air.
You will notice an aroma of a eucalyptus tree, which sets the tone for feelings of clarity, focus and easy breathing. The waiting room automatically sets the nature for what rest of the offices look like.
The office has a very modern and fresh look to it. I wanted to create a welcoming, clean and cozy environment where clients can feel at home. An atmosphere that would help individuals, couples and families slow down, feel safe and open to exploring the reasons they came in to therapy.
When shopping for the furniture I wanted accent chairs, love seats and sofas that not only look great but are comfortable and pleasant for everyone.
Overall, it was very important that clients felt at “home” versus in an “office” space.
2) WHAT VIBE DO YOU HOPE YOUR OFFICE GIVES YOUR THERAPY CLIENTS?
I really wanted an extension of my own home. An environment that communicates positive energy through the use of bright colors.
My hope was that through the use of colors, clients would be pulled into different spaces which promote serenity and peace. You will also see different plants and flowers throughout the office in order to bring light and life into the office.
3) DO YOU HAVE ANY CREATURE COMFORTS IN YOUR OFFICE FOR CLIENTS?
I have a station where we have a water cooler dispensing cold and hot water. We do provide tea bags for those who would like warm tea.
Upon request, I do have blankets and pillows for client use. I also have a sound machine in each of the rooms including the waiting room.
4) WHO DESIGNED AND DECORATED YOUR THERAPY OFFICE? DID YOU GET HELP FROM PROFESSIONALS, COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS, OR FAMILY?
5) ANY ADVICE FOR THERAPISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DESIGNING THEIR OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR SEASONED THERAPISTS LOOKING TO REDESIGN THEIR OFFICES?
Start by creating a budget that is comfortable with you. Use colors that bring positive energy into a room and are not too loud and overwhelming.
Great advice I got from Nancy Blumrich is “Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors”. Take your time and Enjoy the process.
