FP fans, meet Jody Pittner, a therapist in Cleveland, OH!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR THERAPY OFFICE?
Clean, fresh, modern design that is both functional and cozy.
WHAT VIBE DO YOU HOPE YOUR OFFICE GIVES YOUR THERAPY CLIENTS?
I want my clients to look forward to coming in each week. I want them to feel inspired and comfortable to open up to new perspectives.
I want the environment to allow creativity to flow and ideas to spring up during session.
DO YOU HAVE ANY CREATURE COMFORTS IN YOUR OFFICE FOR CLIENTS?
Creature comforts I’ve included are pillows, blankets, chocolate, and water.
As an art therapist I also feel the art materials themselves are often inviting and familiar in a really good way.
WHO DESIGNED AND DECORATED YOUR THERAPY OFFICE? DID YOU GET HELP FROM PROFESSIONALS, COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS, OR FAMILY?
I designed and decorated it. No help aside from my husband assisting with the painting of the room.
ANY ADVICE FOR THERAPISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DESIGNING THEIR OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR SEASONED THERAPISTS LOOKING TO REDESIGN THEIR OFFICES?
With small spaces like this one (8.5’ by 10’), lay out the room on a grid with exact measurements to be sure pieces fit properly. Think about adding functional pieces that can be used in multiple ways and that have storage built into them (like the table that extends and has drawers).
Be sure to enliven the room with your personality, art, and plants (live if you can but really good plastic ones work too). Have fun!! Creating your space is like a piece of art!!
