FP fans, meet Lenora Ziegler, a therapist in Freehold & Manalapan Township, NJ!
1) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR THERAPY OFFICE?
One of my favorite aspects of living in Central New Jersey is the proximity and beauty of the Jersey Shore. I wanted to create a counseling space that captured the tranquility and serenity of sitting in a living room by the beach.
My clients have shared that they feel comfortable and relaxed and that they look forward to our next appointment. I find myself very productive in between sessions and so relaxed as well.
2) WHAT VIBE DO YOU HOPE YOUR OFFICE GIVES YOUR THERAPY CLIENTS?
I want the vibe in my office to be calming and soothing, but also empowering and inspiring for my clients.
3) DO YOU HAVE ANY CREATURE COMFORTS IN YOUR OFFICE FOR CLIENTS?
I offer hot or iced tea, coffee decaf or regular, cappuccino, lattes or espresso, and Dove hot chocolate. My favorite is the mocha latte.
There are mini water bottles, tissues, cozy blankets, thought provoking conversation cubes, mindfulness card games for all ages, and soothing ocean sounds, of course!
I always greet my clients in the waiting area in a timely manner and offer to take their coat. I believe in a less than 5 minute wait time as I am conscious of other people’s time as well as wanting to maximize my time with each and every client.
4) WHO DESIGNED AND DECORATED YOUR THERAPY OFFICE? DID YOU GET HELP FROM PROFESSIONALS, COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS, OR FAMILY?
I thoroughly enjoyed designing this office with the help of my incredibly supportive family and close friends. I was originally inspired while having breakfast at my dear friend Alicia’s gorgeous home as we talked about my business plan and goals to expand my practice. Alicia’s incredible support and reframe of the “living room by the Shore” idea inspired the concept.
My husband was my design engineer. He put together the desk and bookcase and hung the pictures until everything was just right.
I also wanted to bring in special items from the special people in my life that would make me smile while at my office. My mother gifted me two plants that were hers and that we both agreed fit perfectly adding the right green to the beach vibe.
My children each gave me a favorite stuffed animal of theirs that are prominently on display on the shelf right next to a very special picture of Grand Central Terminal. GCT was my Dad’s “house” where he served others as the General Superintendent and took care of the famed building for many years. The GCT picture shows the sunlight through the windows from above and symbolizes my Dad watching over me on this journey of mine in serving others.
Lastly, my amazing friend Ilene, with her photographic genius, helped by taking these pictures which digitally captured my vision for this office.
5) ANY ADVICE FOR THERAPISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DESIGNING THEIR OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR SEASONED THERAPISTS LOOKING TO REDESIGN THEIR OFFICES?
My advice is to create a space that you love to be in. Being in private practice and being your own boss, comes with a lot of hard work and self-direction.
Taking care of our work space is one way for therapists to take care of themselves.
The less cluttered and more serene the office space, the more productive we can be.
