FP fans, meet Yasmine Binghalib, a therapist in Placeville, CA!
1) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR THERAPY OFFICE?
I would say that it’s tranquil and cozy, with a beachy undertone. I love, love, the ocean- for me it’s soothing, so I tried to take aspects of that and convey it in my office.
2) WHAT VIBE DO YOU HOPE YOUR OFFICE GIVES YOUR THERAPY CLIENTS?
I hope clients come in and feel immediately relaxed and comfortable. Therapy can be hard enough (especially walking through the door for the first time) so I want a comforting and soothing environment for the people I work with.
3) DO YOU HAVE ANY CREATURE COMFORTS IN YOUR OFFICE FOR CLIENTS?
I have a Keurig with coffee, hot chocolate and all the fixins in my waiting room. A warm drink can be so therapeutic in it of itself!
I have a salt lamp in bowl in my office that creates warmth and a cozy atmosphere.
4) WHO DESIGNED AND DECORATED YOUR THERAPY OFFICE? DID YOU GET HELP FROM PROFESSIONALS, COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS, OR FAMILY?
I decorated it but had some help from my husband (who put together all the furniture and painted) and my mother who is an artist (so I would go to her for advice). She also painted the picture on the wall and sculpted my vase and business card holder.
5) ANY ADVICE FOR THERAPISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DESIGNING THEIR OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR SEASONED THERAPISTS LOOKING TO REDESIGN THEIR OFFICES?
I spent a lot of time on Pinterest and it was wonderful. I think what helped is that I had an idea of a general theme and color scheme of what I wanted (I’ve only been picturing my private practice for the past 7 years haha).
I think it is important to go with decoration that goes with your personality as a therapist, it will feel more authentic.
It also helps to keep a checklist of what you don’t want. Something that I felt was very important was to stay away from a chaotic and “cluttery” space. I really wanted things to look cohesive, like everything in the office kind of flows together.
I spent a little more money than I would have hitting up thrift stores and garage sales, but for me it was worth it both aesthetically and time wise (I have two small kiddos at home so free time is hard to come by).
Sites like Wayfair have nice looking furniture and decor at a reduced price.
