Vibrant & Contemporary in Texas

FP fans, meet Pearl Jessie, a therapist in Beaumont, TX!

1) HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF YOUR THERAPY OFFICE?

Most clients have described the contemporary design of my office as colorful, vibrant and upbeat with calming undertones. It has been said to me that it is “hard to be depressed in here.” Point made.

2) WHAT VIBE DO YOU HOPE YOUR OFFICE GIVES YOUR THERAPY CLIENTS?

My clientele basis consists of a number of depressed clients. So in designing the office, I not only wanted to reflect my energetic personality, but to convey a positive, bright and calming environment where my clients can feel comfortable to openly express themselves, and it actually works because it is an ice breaker.

Each client that walks in begins talking about the décor, which can often take their mind off of the therapeutic environment and how tense they are upon their initial encounter with me.

3) DO YOU HAVE ANY CREATURE COMFORTS IN YOUR OFFICE FOR CLIENTS?

I use running water fountains as a comfort and soother in addition to a white noise machine. I have candy available in the waiting area and in the office that clients readily take advantage of.

I also have pillows on the couches that I notice that clients often grab and hold when talking about difficult subjects. One of my pillows has the words “Hug Me” on it in the shape of a heart.

Water is available and there is a Keurig machine in the waiting area for community usage.

4) WHO DESIGNED AND DECORATED YOUR THERAPY OFFICE? DID YOU GET HELP FROM PROFESSIONALS, COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS, OR FAMILY?

Because I enjoy decorating and truly feel it should showcase the personality of the therapist or counselor I decorated my own office. Everyone was against the red but it is the favorite color of my daughter and husband so I use that with my favorite colors which are black and white. Together it makes for a dynamic presentation.

5) ANY ADVICE FOR THERAPISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DESIGNING THEIR OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR SEASONED THERAPISTS LOOKING TO REDESIGN THEIR OFFICES?

Clients perceive our personality and connect to us through our creativity. Don’t be afraid to accentuate your individuality in the design of your office.

If you have to stand alone and be original, do not be afraid to do so, originality is what makes us unique. I do not blend; what message am I sending to my clients if I do?

And I also tried to convey what I always saw as lacking in medical offices that I visited; each one seemed to be a carbon copy of the other.
